Essential: Solar Panels
Solar Panels could be considered essential if you are living on a
tight budget. I have 200W on the roof with an old-school lead acid battery.
During peak sun, April – August, I figure I save $60/mo on gas AND allows me to
watch more TV if needed. If I upgraded to 600W on the roof and a few good
lithium batteries, then I could survive a few cloudy days without running the
generator, thus saving $120/mo. It’s not just money saved. It helps prolong
your campsite and keeps you secure without needing to constantly get external
power from something. If I were to upgrade, I could easily get my money back in
24 months. Soon enough to get some net gain before needing a new battery.
It's real simple to setup. The panels plug into a controller which is attached to the battery. Easy peezy. I used to keep the panels loose so I could move them around. I tired of that so I attached them to the roof. I plan to get more and maybe some fold up portable ones.
